Welcome

Headteacher’s Welcome

Welcome to Hugh Sexey Church of England Middle School.

It is a real honour to be the Headteacher of this vibrant and caring school community. Whether you are visiting us for the first time or are already part of our school family, I hope our website gives you a sense of the values, warmth and ambition that define us.

We are a very popular oversubscribed Middle School, attracting many families from outside of our catchment area; this is because parents and carers tell us that they prefer the three-tiered system and feel it promotes a more effective education for their child.

At Hugh Sexey Church of England Middle School, we are proud to be a happy and busy community, where every pupil is known, valued, and supported to flourish both academically and personally. We believe that all pupils deserve the very best education and we work hard to provide an environment where children feel safe, supported, and challenged. We recognise and understand that children are brilliantly different and that they learn in a multitude of ways, our aim is to develop these attributes, raise their expectations and provide the support and challenge necessary for lifelong success.

We take a “warm strict” approach in support of our pupils – combining high expectations with care, compassion, and consistency. We want our pupils to aspire to high standards because we believe in them whilst understanding that falling short of these standards is part of learning and essential in building resilience for life. Our two key messages for pupils are simple and powerful. Be kind. Work hard. These principles guide everything we do – from how we treat one another, to how we approach learning, challenges, and opportunities.

Our Christian ethos underpins and shapes this culture rooted in respect, tolerance, courtesy and care for others. These values help our pupils develop into confident, compassionate young people who are ready to contribute positively to the changing world around them.

We recognise that the gift of learning is a shared, life-long process and that the partnerships between pupils, teachers, parents and the Wessex Learning Trust are vitally important in ensuring that all our pupils aspire to achieve the best possible learning outcomes they can. Your children are at the very heart of everything we do and we really do believe that ‘We Learn Together’.

It is a priviledge to welcome children into our school and to watch them grow into thoughtful, curious, and responsible young adults. Being part of that journey is a joy, and truly the best job in the world!
