English

Hugh Sexey Church of England Middle School’s English curriculum is designed to develop pupils’ love of reading, writing and discussion; preparing them for life as successful, articulate individuals. We inspire an appreciation of our rich and varied literary heritage and encourage a love of reading.  Our curriculum is varied and exciting, based around high-quality and culturally diverse texts. We aim to give our pupils an understanding of our world that both encompasses our British values and reaches beyond their own experience.

We nurture a culture where children take pride in their writing; communicating clearly, imaginatively and accurately whilst adapting their language and style for a range of contexts. Enthusing a passion for reading and a love for language flows through the work we do at KS2 and KS3. We endeavor to make our pupils lifelong readers. Pupils are supported in this by a well-stocked library and discussion of literature is incorporated into our curriculum. We inspire pupils to be confident in the art of speaking and listening and to use discussion to communicate and further their learning in all areas of the curriculum.
